Upcoming Season

The time has come to put away your track spikes and dig out your long cross-country spikes, hill running shoes or trainers. Think about the fun to be had in splashing through the mud, snow, tracks and trails of a Scottish winter XC season.

There are a number of competitions to enter throughout the season. Age groups are the same as in the summer, ie. if you were competing at U11 during this summer, then you are still U11 for XC. The hill runs are a bit different - check on the day!

Cross country running is the best form of winter training for ALL young junior athletes, whether you think of yourself as a sprinter, thrower, jumper or distance runner. Our recent successful athletes on the international stage (Kathryn Christie, Robbie Simpson, Rhona Auckland, Alisha Rees, Michael Ferguson, Kelsey Stewart) ALL did XC events throughout the winter, whilst concentrating on the track through the summer. It develops fitness, strength, coordination, balance, mental toughness.. and it is FUN. Your coaches expect ALL young athletes to take part.

Details of upcoming events (refer also to Calendar):

a) Local Winter Series - The Running Shop XC Series
4 local events, all ages. Entry is via Entry Central (entry will be open soon). There are prizes for the overall winner of the series.  See Calendar for dates.  The first events is at Knockburn - 03.11.19. This is our BSAC race, and we expect everyone to participate. PUT THIS IN YOUR DIARY NOW.

b)  Autumn Hill Running Series
Local hill races, really good junior races (some of the toughest!), just turn up, register and run. See Scottish hill runners website for details of age categories.

c)  Cross Country Relays
Fantastic fun events for teams of 3 juniors (3x2500m). Teams consist of U13 first leg, U13 or U15 second leg, and U15 or U17 third leg. Also teams of 3 (female) or 4 (male) senior athletes. Entry is via BSAC - I will coordinate entries and select teams. Look out for upcoming mails regarding entry coming very soon. Last year we won silver at the East Districts!

d)  Scottish Athletics Championships
Entry via BSAC - anyone - U13's and older can enter, just let me know when I send out the call.

e)  East District League

Open to all ages, Scottish Athletics members, 3 races a bit further afield, just turn up and run (free). You do have to wear a BSAC number (36 - make your own), then someone gives names into the organiser after each race.
See East District League for details.

f)  Scottish schools XC championships
Secondary and primary school events - enter via your school. Also local RGC / Albyn XC event. Get yourselves a team together in your class. See www.ssaa.co.uk for details.
